What are the best practices for simulating water straight jet nozzles with Fluent?
VOF approach or Eulerian Multifluid approach can be used for simulating water straight jet nozzles. The latter can give some advantages due to the possibility to model per phase turbulence.
For some designs (specially designs with sharp corners inside the nozzle) two possible flow regimes with different mass flow rates can exist:
– Flow regime without air entrainment
– Hydraulic flip regime
If this is the case, a simple approach based on air patch inside the nozzle can be used to bias between the two regimes.
This will allow to get the solution with air entrainment in a static simulation, without the need of accurate flow history and cavitation modeling or including tiniest imperfections.
